Industry Panel
The industry panel is organized in the context of the 16th International Conference on Knowledge Engineering and Knowledge Management
and will be held on Wednesday 1st October. It will be an occasion for the semantic technology industry to drive the research community, proposing new scientific challenges and
application requirements, suggesting perspectives for new investments and existing business opportunities.
The panel provides a snapshot of the market, involving world leader companies (Yahoo! Research, Boeing and IBM), rapidly growing semantic companies (Reinvent Technology and ISOCO).
Talks of all participants will be supposed to answer the following questions:
- What semantic technologies have worked within your company and what have not?
- What has fallen by the wayside, and why?
- What are the problems of interest for your company that you think could be solved by applying state of art semantic technologies?
- What are the problems of interest for your company that you think will be solved by next generation semantic technologies? If any, when do you think they'll be mature enough for your purposes?
- What are the roadblocks to getting semantic technologies utilized in a commercial setting?
- How does the commercial world view semantic technologies?
- Is the Semantic Web impacting your company? Do you expect it to do so in the near future?
- What advice would you give those academic researchers working on semantic technologies and wanting to engage the industry world?
- What advice would you give those companies wanting to invest in the semantic technology market?
